About Me

Hi! I’m Joan.

I am proud of you for taking a step to unearth a conscious you. As Dr. Brené Brown says, “We must own our story so that we don’t spend the rest of our lives hustling for worthiness.” As your coach, my mission is to create a safe and affirming space where healing becomes liberation, and where you can thrive unapologetically in alignment with your truth."

When I started my own journey, it was lonely and scary. I didn’t know anyone who was on the same journey, and I yearned to have a tribe. I am committed to empowering you to heal generational wounds, reclaim your authentic self, while building a life rooted in self-worth, self-compassion, and joy. Through culturally responsive and holistic practices, I will guide you in reparenting their inner child, establishing healthy boundaries, and navigating their unique experiences with grace and resilience.

I will also help you connect with the generational wisdom and the post-trauma wisdom so that you can empower yourself and those around you because healing is a community effort.

A little about me…

As a child, I felt like I did not belong even though I knew I was loved and supported by my family. My unique needs were not being met and as a result, I felt disconnected from myself and others. Adults were unnecessarily cruel to children which created emotional distress and anxiety. Emotions were not validated, discussed or supported. I learned to abandon the wonderful parts of me to survive my environment. Many times I teleported myself to far away lands where life was peaceful and happy through books and movies. Now I know I learned to dissociate from my body and my environments because I did not feel safe.

When I immigrated to the United States, I was emotionally wounded, I did not know myself, I was not safe in my body and, therefore, I was incapable of feeling safe around others. I was raising a child as single parent with limited access to the tools I needed to be able to navigate the new country and socio-economic systems.

I was navigating a new world while pursuing higher education. I remember watching episodes of the Oprah Show and connecting some dots but at the time, the information did not resonate.

My curiosity in human psychology led me to pursue a degree in Human Resources and a master’s in Organizational Development . The college course work included a lot of psychology classes, which triggered a deeper interest in my own behavior and that of others. By the time I was done with my master’s degree in 2016, it was evident that I needed to work on myself. I was unhappy, my daughter was struggling with her mental health and everything around me seemed to be falling apart.

This is when the quest to rediscover myself started. However, to reconnect with myself, I needed to understand my family of origin to get a good understanding of who my parents and grandparents were. I needed to understand the unresolved generational trauma they experienced so that I could be the cycle breaker.

Understanding my family history, their generational struggles and their generational strength helped me understand that my parents and their parents did what they could with the skills and resources they had and at no time did any of them set the intention to cause emotional or physical harm to me and my siblings.

I started going for therapy, hired a life coach and finally got certified as a coach myself so that I could help others like me. The beauty about working on myself is that I have learned, through The Adult Chair®, how to be compassionate and empathetic with myself and others. I have amazing tools to center myself, and I am equipped to help you rediscover you.

Whether you are an immigrant like me, or a person of color living in any part of the world where you feel like you do not belong, a person of color who feels constantly misunderstood, a person of color whose relationships are falling apart, or a person of color whose family is dysfunctional, I am here to tell you there is hope and you are not alone in this journey.

The journey you are about to embark on with me is about owning your story, healing the wounded parts of you and emerging as the most authentic emotionally, spiritually and physically healthy version of yourself. I urge you to give yourself permission to take the most important journey, the journey back home to you.

"I am so grateful for Joan walking this journey with me. I am thankful that she created a safe space for me to share the parts of me I have not shared with other people. I am grateful for the encouragement me and my classmates got during the Inner Child Class. Joan is truly an amazing person and coach. I am grateful our paths crossed."
